Our history

The John Cheatle Group was founded in 1937 in Leicester, and today remains a family business, still Leicester-headquartered, with third-generation Cheatle, Justin, at the helm.

It has grown into a multi-million pound operation from its origin as a single shop on Belgrave Road, Leicester.  Today it turns over £15m and more than 500 people are employed across all the divisions.

Over the years, the Group has acquired other specialist schoolwear businesses, in addition to natural organic growth, and these have contributed to its strength today as the largest independent schoolwear supplier in the UK.

The Group has always had excellent service at the heart of its philosophy, and that rings just as true today as it did 76 years ago.
